I think Congress Approval ratings are amusing in some ways.
Disapproval is high, yet we habitually seem to vote the same jokers in.

This is what I don't understand. We have term limits. They're called ELECTIONS. If you don't like your rep, VOTE THEM OUT. But you can't make a decision for another district that actually likes the rep of theirs that you hate. Term Limits, effectually, remove the choice from the people. AND there is a loss in institutional knowledge.

The reason these guys stay in congress is because it is so profitable. If we could cut their salaries in half and take away their heathcare benefits and make them live with what they want us to have. And, no retirement benefits.

Unfortunately, 'institutional knowledge' also equates to the good ol' boy network, cozy with lobbyists and a higher likelyhood of corruption.

For the most part, I believe 'we the people' no longer matter to most on The Hill.

If 75% believe a senator shouldn't have more than two full terms (12 years), then 75% of them should be voting for someone else if/when that senator is running for a third term...Easy breezy...

Telling us what these Americas polled SAY doesn't match up with what these Americans polled DO...

Could it be, by any chance, just maybe, they are voting for the lesser of evils when they re-elect the same representatives?

With true term limits, it removes that particular issue for a 'bad seed' representative....

It just seems like once they are in it is easier for them to stay in. They have the name recognition the power base etc.
I also would like to see term limits for unelected officials, notably the Supreme Court. I think 20 years or age 80 whichever comes first would be fair.

But that changes the answer...

If what they MEANT was "75% approve of term limits...UNLESS the other candidate(s) suck.", then just say so...
