Default 100 Republicans sign letter urging Obama to void Rice nod for State

I have to side with the Republicans on this one. Rice is clearly incompetent and possibly a liar to boot. Regardless, she deserves to be nowhere near the responsibilities of the SoS.

Now, if the White House is willing to admit who told Rice these attacks were not an act of terror and that they were spontaneous, then I would be willing to consider her for the position, but as of now, she lied to the American people and liars are something we need to weed out of politics.

Basically, Rice either lied to us or was fed false information. If it is the former, we do not want her as SoS. If it is the latter, I want to know who gave her this information. Until these questions are answered, do not allow her to become SoS.

Quote:
Nearly 100 House Republicans on Monday called on President Obama not to nominate Susan Rice as Secretary of State.

In a letter to Obama, the Republicans said the credibility of the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has been gravely wounded by her account of the September 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

"Though Ambassador Rice has been our Representative to the U.N., we believe her misleading statements over the days and weeks following the attack on our embassy in Libya that led to the deaths of Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans caused irreparable damage to her credibility both at home and around the world," Republicans wrote in their letter, which was led by Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) and sent to Obama Monday.

Stevens and the three others were killed in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

The letter says Rice "propagated a falsehood" that the attacks were a spontaneous response to a video that depicted the Prophet Muhammed. The administration then said more than a week later that terrorism may have played a role.

"Ambassador Rice is widely viewed as having either willfully or incompetently misled the American public in the Benghazi matter," it says. "Her actions plausibly give U.S. allies (and rivals) abroad reason to question U.S. commitment and credibility when needed.

"Thus, we believe that making her the face of U.S. foreign policy in your second term would greatly undermine your desire to improve U.S. relations with the world and continue to build trust with the American people."

If Obama were to nominate Rice, it would be up to the Senate to confirm her, not the House. But the House Republican letter mirrors some of the Senate Republican criticism of Rice that has emerged.

Just last week, Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have said they would work to block the nomination in the Senate. Obama in a press conference last week singled out McCain and Graham for criticism over their attacks on Rice.

The House letter ends by saying that the House is still looking for answers to questions about the Benghazi attack.

"In light of this troubling situation and the continued unanswered questions, we strongly oppose any efforts to nominate Ambassador Susan Rice for the position of Secretary of State," the letter said.

I just removed from my PW News folder a story on this and one where Obama says back off of Rice. I guess she might become the new replacement for Mrs. Clinton, as Head of the US State Department. Now this is just IMHO.

I decided I didn't want to upset the Left. And still don't want to. But America needs to get to the truth, and I do hope the Left feels the same way.

And what if she is the best person for the job? This trumping up outrage against Democrats has gone on for many years, so I guess it won't cease anytime soon, but I would not give in to their childish rants any more than I was forced to if I was involved in any Democrat administration. Know why? Because like the immature "win at any cost" brats they are, you give in an inch, they will try to take the mile.

You are not going to convince me for a second that with over three hundred million people in this country, Susan Rice, who made a fool of herself on national television by giving us false information, is the best person for the job of SoS.

She made her bed and now has to lie in it. No need to whine about it now.

Susan Rice is as qualified for SoS as Elmer Fudd.

Do not mess with Elmer Fudd. He does not play around.

Rice would be a great choice for IWon to thumb his nose at Congress. It would have to be a recess appointment with no confirmation hearing but it is not like that is anything new for Obama.

Kerry would be a great choice to alienate the military another of Obama's objectives.

What a bunch of BS. A few whiny ass republicans want to create a scandal, cut Rice from the herd and are going to pounce? Fuq that. Rice has done a better job than the last person in her position. She has put together the tightest sanctions Iran has ever seen and it is finally starting to create some effect. She has done a better job of this than anyone else who has held the job. She came out and produced the talking points she was given and all the sudden she isn't qualified? BS

The Republican's attack on Rice is dispicable. There is nothing in her record of performance that makes her unfit for being SoS - in fact, she's quite accomplished and capable.

What it boils down to is she has become a scapegoat primarily because:

1. she did not say Al-Queda was responsible in her initial interviews
2. they can't seem to get at Obama over this so they're going after Rice instead.

She spoke from talking points that were provided from intelligence agencies.

And that is the only reason she is being attacked like this and claimed to be "unfit" to be SoS - because she failed to say two words: Al-Queda.

Can anyone else see how crazy this is?

Why would Kerry as a choice "alienate the military"?
